Everything loads quickly, and navigation feels effortless.

While JustCasino is our top pick for AB casino’s, it unfortunately doesn’t come with a native app you can for mobile casino works well on both Safari and Chrome, providing a solid game time without a standalone app. While it's not quite as convenient as an app, the site's functionality remains intact, making it a viable option for mobile play.

Alberta iGaming market regulations 2025

Latest update May 2025:

Alberta has decided to delay the launch of its regulated online gaming and betting market. It was originally planned for late 2024 or early 2025, but it’s been announced that the province wants to establish a comprehensive iGaming strategy that ensures fairness, transparency, and the protection of its residents beforehand. The AB government will continue working with industry stakeholders to refine the model and align it with regulatory priorities. A new strategy is expected to be presented later in 2025.

US tariffs in Canada

In response to the U.S. government's recent imposition of 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum products, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) has suspended the purchase of gaming machines from US-based manufacturers.

Responsible gaming in Alberta

Alberta has cancelled funding to the Edmonton-based Problem Gambling Resources Network (PGRN). The group had been operating since 1993 and the government funding provided around 95% of it’s annual income. The rationale for this cut was that PGRN did not provide direct services within Alberta's sports betting market.

If you’re concerned about problem gambling, there are plenty of other organizations you can turn to like the Alberta Health Services, the Responsible Gambling Council as well as further problem gambling groups in and around the province. Have a look at our section on keeping gaming online fun and safe below.

Be careful of scams - March 2025 update:

Fraudulent casino ads are circulating on social media, targeting players in Ontario, New Brunswick, and British Columbia. While Gaming News Canada didn’t report any scam ads appearing in Alberta, similar fake casino promotions were spotted last January.

These deceptive ads mimic legitimate casinos but exist solely to take your money. To stay safe, avoid clicking on social media casino ads. Instead, visit the casino’s official website directly or explore our guides to find secure, legal options in your province.

Current status:

Alberta's iGaming market is undergoing significant regulatory changes. The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) oversees all gambling activities under the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act. In May 2024, the age of Bill 16, the Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, affirmed the provincial government's authority to manage gaming operations, setting the stage for market expansion.

Subsequently, Alberta announced plans to introduce enabling legislation in spring 2025 to allow private iGaming operators to enter the market, aiming to improve competition and player choice. At present, the top Alberta casinos are actually international sites that accept AB players. This legislation would likely change that.

This shift mirrors Ontario's open-license model, indicating a trend towards a more competitive and diverse online gambling environment in Alberta. However, for now we'll have to follow the developments closely and see how the legalities progress.
